Denmark, dream weekend for Rasmussen-Haxen: victory in home tournament
May 11, 2026
The Danish pair of Maria Rasmussen and Gitte Haxen claimed victory at the FIP Bronze Mos Mosh Gallery Kif Padel Masters in Kolding, their home tournament. For Haxen, the title won in Denmark was the first of her career on the CUPRA FIP Tour, while 47-year-old Rasmussen had already secured a victory at the Swedish FIP Bronze in Gothenburg, played in April 2025. After defeating a strong pair such as Lucía Fernández-María Teresa Moriñigo in the semi-finals (4-6 7-6 6-4), the two champions overcame the tournament’s top seeds, Marcella Koek and Bo Luttikhuis, in the title match in two sets (6-4 7-6). The latter had won the FIP Bronze in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in April. “On Mother’s Day something happened that, for me, is bigger than the result itself – said Rasmussen after the triumph –. Gitte and I won a historic FIP Bronze while playing in Denmark. Over the last two years we have made extremely difficult choices, removing everything that was unnecessary compared to padel. We did not do it to chase a title, but to experience together everything we are living now. For me, the goal was never to reach finals or earn ranking points; I wanted my children to grow up seeing that it is possible to dream big and to find your own space even when life is full, even when you are 47 years old”. Speaking about Danish padel, Rasmussen added: “This result is proof that Denmark’s journey in this sport is only just beginning. We do not need to look at the rest of the world thinking we are behind: we have something authentic, something built on community, passion and people”.
In the men’s draw, meanwhile, Iago Fuertes and Albert Roglan Pons claimed the title after defeating the top seeds Rodrigo Coello and Adam Axelsson in three sets in the final (4-6 6-3 6-4). In the semi-finals, the champions had overcome the pair of Thijs Roper and Willy Släryd (7-6 6-1). “Champions! – said Fuertes after the victory –. I could not be happier: now I can say that I have won my first professional title. This is the first step of a long journey. I’m happy to have achieved this result with you, Roglan. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who supports me in both the good moments and the more difficult ones”.
