Polo–Lobo’s chemistry continues with Cordenons title

From the semi-finals of the FIP Gold in Shanghai to the title at the FIP Bronze in Cordenons, Italy, Julia Polo and Marina Lobo continue to show the strong partnership that began a month ago with their first title together at the FIP Bronze in Pembroke, Malta. The top-seeded pair lived up to expectations, producing a flawless tournament without dropping a set. In the final as well, Polo and Lobo delivered a dominant performance, defeating Italy’s Chiara Giaquinta (in her first final on the CUPRA FIP Tour) and 16-year-old Maria Delgado, one of the revelations of the early part of the season, by a double 6-1.

In the men’s draw, the title went to Jaume Romera — now with three victories since the start of the year — and Simón Nieto, who claimed his first title on the circuit. In the final against top seeds Antonio “Pincho” Fernández and Adrián Márques, Romera and Nieto were leading 6-3 4-6 3-0 when their opponents were forced to retire due to a knee injury to Márques. Both players wished their opponent a speedy recovery: “We wish you a quick recovery, we hope to see you back on court soon.”
