Astorga, Adrian Ronco celebrates first CUPRA FIP Tour title

In the careers of many players, there are places that hold a special meaning. Astorga, Spain, will forever remain the place where Adrian Ronco (on the right in the photo) won his first CUPRA FIP Tour title. This success is even more significant as it came in the first tournament played alongside Fran Jurado. After defeating the talented Santino Contreras and Naim Horacio Diaz in a closely contested semi-final decided by a third-set tie-break (4-6 6-3 7-6), the pair overcame Thijs Roper and Willy Slaryd in the title match with a 6-4 6-4 victory. For Jurado, this was his second title of the year on the circuit after his success at the end of May in the FIP Bronze Abu Dhabi, and the fourth of his career. “My first FIP title,” said Ronco. “Fran, you are great.” Jurado also commented on the result: “In our first tournament together, we already have a great understanding”.

The No.1 seeds in the women’s draw, Lara Arruabarrena and Ana Nogueira, were crowned champions in Astorga. The two players first defeated Brittany Dubins and Anna Cortiles 6-1 6-4 in the match for a place in the final, before overcoming No.2 seeds Rebeca Lopez and Blanca Arriola Cerrejon 6-3 6-4 in the title decider. The only set dropped by the winners throughout the tournament came in the quarter-finals against Mar Munera and Carla Aguila. For both Arruabarrena and Nogueira, this was their first CUPRA FIP Tour title of the year.
