Day3. Canovas-Rodriguez and Tello-Arce look to keep surprising. Quarter-finals take centre stage today

Every Premier Padel tournament has its surprise pair. If last week in Valladolid – as had also happened in Rome – Nuria Rodriguez and Giulia Dal Pozzo reached the semi-finals, this time Noa Canovas and another Rodriguez, Laia, are hoping to do the same. Thanks to a 6-3 6-2 victory over Marta Ortega and Martina Calvo, they have reached their first Premier Padel quarter-final. Today, however, Noa and Laia face second seeds Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez, who eased through their opening match 6-1 6-2 against Alix Collombon and Ksenia Sharifova, just as the other top pairs also progressed comfortably. The only seeded pair to require three sets was Claudia Fernandez and Sofia Araujo, who defeated Jessica Castelló and Marta Talavan 3-6 6-1 7-5 and will now take on Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen. The remaining quarter-finals are Brea/Triay (1) vs Guinart/Virseda (8) and Sanchez/Ustero (3) vs Salazar/Alonso (7).

 

MEN Only one of the eight seeded pairs was eliminated in the men’s draw, with Juan Tello and Maxi Arce defeating seventh seeds Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal to book a quarter-final against Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas. The other bottom-half quarter-final features Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan against Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz, champions of the inaugural Bordeaux P2. Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who needed just 53 minutes to defeat Xisco Gil and Maxi Sanchez 6-0 6-1, will face Momo Gonzalez and Lucas Campagnolo. The top half of the draw is completed by the quarter-final between Martin Di Nenno and Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger.
