Day1. From Mediterranean Games gold medal to the Movistar Arena: Diestro keeps winning

Just four days ago, José Diestro, alongside David Gala, won the gold medal at the Mediterranean Games representing Spain. From Taranto to Madrid, where the main draw of the Comunidad de Madrid P1 got under way today, marking the return of Premier Padel after the summer break. Partnering Marc Sintes, Diestro defeated Tolito Aguirre and Pablo Garcia 3-6 7-5 6-1 to earn a place in the second round against Javi Barahona and Maxi Sanchez Blasco (16). Diestro’s partner in Taranto, David Gala, was instead beaten alongside Enzo Jensen by Andres Fernandez Lancha and Denis Perino, who prevailed 3-6 7-5 7-6.

 

Tomorrow, all the world’s top players will return to the court: Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia will begin against Fede Mouriño and Marc Quilez, Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan against Aris Patiniotis and Diego Garcia, while Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger — the latter the defending champion alongside Martin Di Nenno — will face Javi Martinez and Luis Hernandez. After their victory at the FIP Gold Belgrade, Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz (4) will make their Premier Padel debut as a pair against Mariano Gonzalez and Curro Cabeza.

 

WOMEN Tomorrow will also see the completion of the women’s last-16 line-up, with the top four seeded pairs set to make their debut on Thursday. At 9am, on two different courts at the Movistar Arena, the Mediterranean Games gold medallists will take to the court: Lucia Sainz, alongside Sofia Saiz, against Lorena Rufo and Victoria Iglesias, fresh from their FIP Gold Belgrade triumph, while Patty Llaguno and Carolina Orsi will face Raquel Eugenio and Jimena Velasco, the latter beaten by Sainz/Llaguno in the gold-medal match in Taranto.
