From Texas to Córdoba: Tolito Aguirre goes for back-to-back titles

One week after winning the FIP Silver held in Texas, United States, alongside Antonio “Pincho” Fernandez, Argentine Tolito Aguirre will aim to claim a second consecutive title at the FIP Silver Cordoba in Spain. The No. 31 player in the FIP Ranking will partner Pablo Garcia on this occasion. Aguirre, one of the most popular players on the circuit thanks to his creative and spectacular style of play, is enjoying an excellent season: in mid-March, he reached a prestigious semi-final at the Premier Padel P2 in Cancun, Mexico. In recent months, he has also reached the round of 16 at the P1 tournaments in Malaga and Pretoria. Garcia, No. 38 in the world, was a finalist at the FIP Silver in Kosijde (Belgium) this summer. The main rivals of the No. 1 seeds are Rodrigo Coello and Adam Axelsson. The former has won the FIP Silver tournaments in Mumbai and Miami this year, while the Swede is looking for his first title of the year on the CUPRA FIP Tour. Also in contention are Felipe Calleja-Jaume Romera Barceló, Victor Mena-Fran Jurado and Juan Oviedo-Marco Cassetta. The latter won the silver medal in the mixed category at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, where he played alongside Giulia Dal Pozzo.

The women’s draw is headed by the pair of Agueda Perez-Marta Caparros. Like Aguirre in the men’s draw, they are also seeking a second consecutive victory after triumphing last week at the FIP Silver in Westerbork, Netherlands. Challenging them for the title will be the No. 2 seeds: Marta Borrero-Teresa Navarro. Also in contention are Marina Lobo-Marta Arellano, Carmen Castillon-Lorena Vano and Raquel Piltcher-Christina Styllani Ntanou. The main draw of this tournament will begin on Thursday 3 September and conclude on Saturday 5 September, when the finals in both categories will be played.
