Germany secure double qualification for the FIP World Cup 2026 in Doha. Netherlands and Great Britain also celebrate

MADRID – Another stage of the ‘Road to Doha’ has come to an end. The Netherlands in the men’s category, Great Britain in the women’s category and Germany in both categories: these are the national teams that secured the four places available at the FIP World Cup Qualifiers Europe for the FIP World Cup 2026 in Qatar, scheduled to take place in Doha from 2 to 7 November. Germany qualified by defeating Great Britain in the men’s category and Denmark in the women’s category in the decisive matches of the competition held in Madrid. The Netherlands, meanwhile, defeated Belgium, while Great Britain overcame Poland.

 

MEN’S The final match of the European qualifying round saw Germany secure its place at the Doha World Cup with a 2-1 victory over Great Britain. The tie was closely contested. The first match went to the German pair Lindmeyer/Fitzon, who defeated Jones/Salisbury 4-6 7-6 6-3. In the second, Loughlan/Harris of Great Britain defeated Reca/Wunner 4-6 7-6 7-6 to level the tie. Böhnke/Merten then secured Germany’s World Cup qualification with a 4-6 7-6 6-4 victory over Patacho/Medina Murphy. In the other tie with qualification at stake, the Netherlands men’s team secured its place at the Doha World Cup with a victory over Belgium. In the first match of the tie, Richters/Roper defeated De Roose/Geens in a closely contested match decided in a third-set tie-break (5-7 6-4 7-6). The decisive point for the Netherlands came from De Kroon/Prins, who defeated De Weerdt/Coene in two sets (6-3 6-4).

 

WOMEN’S There was also plenty of action in the two decisive matches in the women’s category. Germany secured its place at the Doha World Cup by coming from behind to defeat Denmark 2-1. The pair Renić/Höfer lost the opening match to Rasmussen/Haxen (3-6 1-6). Germany then responded with victories for Kurz/Blaschke and Plümer/Hering over Wiese/Skov (6-3 6-7 6-4) and Alipieva/Ferrigno (6-0 6-2), respectively. In the other tie with a place in Qatar at stake, Great Britain defeated Poland 2-0. In the opening match, Gibson/Rose defeated Pacocha/Kiszczynska in two sets (6-0 6-2), while Nicolas/De La Mare defeated Rosolka/Pioekowska (6-3 3-6 6-4) in the second. Great Britain completed the FIP World Cup Qualifiers Europe without losing a single tie throughout the tournament.

 

With the European stage now completed, only one event remains to finalise the line-up of teams heading to Doha: the FIP World Cup 2026 Qualifiers Asia-Africa, to be held in Kuwait from 26 to 30 October, which will award the final two available places, one in the men’s category and one in the women’s category. A total of 32 national teams, 16 in the men’s category and 16 in the women’s category, will take part in the Doha World Cup, scheduled for 2 to 7 November.
