Cassetta bids for victory in Rovigo: third title of the year with Oviedo the target

ROVIGO – The European summer has brought a series of successes for Italy’s Marco Cassetta and Fabian Oviedo. In July, they won the FIP Bronze in Lelystad together, before becoming champions at the FIP Silver Jersey Island in early August. The pair arrive at this week’s FIP Bronze Rovigo, Italy, aiming to claim their third title together. Cassetta is particularly motivated as the tournament is being played in his home country. He also sits second in the all-time CUPRA FIP Tour wins ranking with 16 titles, alongside fellow Italian Flavio Abbate and Spain’s Jose Luis Gonzalez. Only Gonzalo Rubio, with 17 titles, is ahead of them. The No. 1 seeds in Rovigo are Victor Ruiz and Facundo Luis Lopez. Also in the spotlight are Miguel Melero-Luis Oliver Artigas and Marcos Cordoba-Bentahor Espino.

The women’s draw at FIP Bronze Rovigo is led by the Spanish pairing of Lucia Peralta and Barbara Las Heras. At the end of August, Peralta secured the prestigious FIP Gold victory in San Luis, Mexico, alongside Lucia Martinez. Las Heras, meanwhile, won FIP Bronze Tunisia I at the end of September with Daria Kucheriavaia. To claim the title, they will have to overcome highly competitive pairings, led by Maria Laura Ferreyra and Anna Ortiz. There is also considerable anticipation surrounding home player Giorgia Rosi, who will take to the court alongside Maria Delgado. Among the entrants are Brittany Dubins and Alba Gallardo. The main draw of the tournament will begin on Thursday 8 October and conclude on Sunday 11 October.
