The draws. Plaza Mayor ready for a big event. Coello plays at home and defends his title

The iconic Plaza Mayor will host the 2025 edition of the Oysho Valladolid Premier Padel P2. After last year’s tournament was held at the Polideportivo Pisuerga, this year the world padel champions will perform in an impressive setting, which has already hosted international events. Arturo Coello, number 1 in the FIP rankings and born in Valladolid, will be the most eagerly awaited player as well as the defending champion with Agustin Tapia (Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez won in 2024 in the women’s competition), but ticket sales continue to suggest that the event will be sold out, with the site completed by two courts set up at Acera de Recoletos.

MEN Today, the two draws were made. In the men’s draw, despite their defeat in the final of the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel, Coello and Agustin Tapia will be the number 1 seeds and will make their debut against two qualifiers. Alex Chozas and Sanyo Gutierrez will be the opponents of Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, champions in Rome and seeded number 2, with Franco Stupaczuk and Juan Lebron (3) completing the podium, making their debut against Inigo Jofre and Alex Arroyo. However, the most exciting first-round match is between Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas (4) against Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal, semi-finalists in Rome. These are the hypothetical quarter-finals: Coello/Tapia (1)-Alonso/Bautista (8), Gonzalez/Sanz (5)-Nieto/Yanguas (4), Stupaczuk/Lebron (3)-Bergamini/Navarro (6), Cardona/Augsburger (7)-Chingotto/Galan (2).

WOMEN Will the women’s draw see another chapter in the 2025 rivalry between Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria and Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay? The two pairs are obviously the number 1 and 2 seeds in a 24-player draw, with Paula and Ari awaiting Collombon/Martinez or a qualifier in the second round. For Delfi and Gemma, on the other hand, a possible first match with Marina Guinart and Victoria Iglesias, who ended their unforgettable Major in Rome in the semi-finals against Brea and Triay. Canovas/Velasco or Castelló/Rufo will be the first opponents for Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez (3), Osoro/Calvo or Riera/Eugenio those of Sofia Araujo and Andrea Ustero (4). Possible quarter-finals: Sanchez/Josemaria (1)-Alonso/Jensen (7), Sainz/Llaguno (8)-Ustero/Araujo (4), Gonzalez/Fernandez (3)-Ortega/Icardo (5), Salazar/Virseda (6)-Triay/Brea (2).
