Mediolanum Padel Cup, Fernandez Lancha–Ortega the favorites in Como

They came really close to winning last week at the FIP Silver in Naples, and now in Como (Italy) they’re the top contenders for the title. Andrés Fernandez Lancha and Mario Ortega are the main stars of the FIP Silver Mediolanum Padel Cup taking place at The Padel Resort. The two Spaniards lead the 32-team men’s draw and will start their run against Portuguese pair Solano/Orge. One of the players to watch against the top seeds is Jaume Romera, born in 2005 and already a three-time champion on the CUPRA FIP Tour this year. This time Romera will team up with Adrian Marques, who reached the semifinals at the FIP Silver Mediolanum Padel Cup in Palermo. Their first match will be against Pirrotta/Antoniazzi.

In the women’s draw, all eyes are on Claudia Escacena —18 years old, just outside the world top 100 and with two titles won this season— and Monica Gomez, number 75 in the FIP Ranking. The entry list also includes the Dutch national players Marcella Koek and Rosalie Van Der Hoek, but for the home crowd the most awaited are Giulia Sussarello —born and raised right in Como— and Martina Parmigiani, fresh off the bronze medal they won with Italy at the FIP Euro Padel Cup a month ago. Also competing for Italy are Emily Stellato with Carolina Petrelli, and the junior pair Camilla Livioni and Vittoria Giraldi.
