Day3. A fairytale every week: first quarter-final for Rodriguez and De Pascual
May 8, 2026
Every week, the Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour delivers fairytales and surprises, with pairs reaching the decisive rounds against all expectations. At the Asuncion P2, it was the turn of Alonso Rodriguez and Juani De Pascual, ranked number 73 and number 89 in the FIP rankings respectively, who had never previously reached the quarter-finals of a Premier Padel tournament. They achieved the feat with a 7-5 6-3 win over eighth seeds Javi Garrido and Lucas Bergamini. Rodriguez and De Pascual will close the quarter-final day against Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger (4), but they are not the only non-seeded players still in action. Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi, after their 6-3 6-4 victory over Momo Gonzalez and Martin Di Nenno, matched their result from Brussels and will face Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas (3). Maxi Arce and Juan Tello, meanwhile, after eliminating Paquito Navarro and Fran Guerrero, repeated the feat against Pablo Lijó and Pablo Garcia: today they will take on Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan. Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, meanwhile, will face Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz.
WOMEN All eight seeded pairs reached the quarter-finals of the women’s draw. Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen (5) were the only pair to require a third set to win their match against Nuria Rodriguez and Giulia Dal Pozzo; Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay defeated Marta Talavan and Sofia Saiz 6-2 6-4 (setting up a quarter-final against Ale Salazar and Ale Alonso), while Bea Gonzalez and Paula Josemaria recorded a double 6-1 win over Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga. Today (play starts at 10 a.m. local time, 3 p.m. CEST), they will face Marta Ortega and Martina Calvo.
