Pereyra-Solano win in São João da Madeira: second title of the season in Portugal

SÃO JOÃO DA MADEIRA – Another triumph in Portugal. After their victory at the FIP Bronze Viseu in March, the Jose Solano-Ramiro Pereyra pair claimed the title at the FIP Silver São João da Madeira, defeating Maxi Sanchez and Lucho Capra in the final in two sets, 7-5 7-6. In the semi-finals, the champions overcame Portuguese pair Pedro Araujo and Pedro Graça 6-2 3-6 6-2. With this victory, Spaniard Solano and Argentinian Pereyra confirmed their excellent form this season: in addition to their titles in Portugal, they have also triumphed together at the FIP Bronze events in Siracusa and Pembroke.

 

“What a joy for our whole team!” said Solano. “We have to keep going like this. We worked very hard this week to win the title. We came through some very tough matches against really strong pairs. Ramiro, let’s continue working day by day as we have been doing. I’m fortunate to be playing with such a great person as you.”

 

In the women’s draw, Amanda Lopez and Camila Fassio, ranked No. 48 and No. 65 respectively in the FIP Ranking, claimed a major victory. After defeating Marta Borrero-Teresa Navarro 6-4 7-5 in the semi-finals, the two Spaniards prevailed over Marta Arellano-Marina Lobo in the title match, winning 3-6 6-3 6-3. This was not the first title won by Lopez-Fassio as a pair this year: at the end of August, they lifted the trophy at the FIP Bronze Madrid.
