Day1. An incredible day for Montiel and Santigosa: eliminated in the morning, into the round of 16 in the evening
October 7, 2026
After losing in the final qualifying round to Clement Geens and Nacho Moragues, the CUPRA Germany P2 campaign of Alvaro Montiel and Dani Santigosa had already come to an end. However, the withdrawal of Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto due to the latter’s injury gave the Italian and the Spaniard a second chance, as they were brought into the main draw as lucky losers. Montiel and Santigosa made the most of the opportunity: back on court in the evening, they defeated Lucas Bergamini and Jairo Bautista 7-5 7-6 to reach the round of 16 at the Düsseldorf tournament, which opened with the first six matches of the main draw.
The number 5 seeds, Paquito Navarro and Martin Di Nenno, also reached the round of 16 thanks to a 6-4 6-4 victory over Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi, as did Juan Tello and Maxi Arce, who eliminated the number 8 seeds Momo Gonzalez and Lucas Campagnolo (semi-finalists in Rotterdam) as they look to keep their hopes of securing a place in the Barcelona Finals alive. Defending champions Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan then discovered their first opponents: Javi Garrido and Juani De Pascual.
Today, the men’s first round will be completed and the women’s draw will get underway. There will be 14 matches on the schedule, with the final three matches on Centre Court featuring local wild cards. At 16:00, Agustin Reca (alongside Spaniard Victor Tur Checa) will face José Solano Marmolejo and Ramiro Pereyra. Next, Lena Pluemer and Katharina Hering will take on Araceli and Lucia Martinez, before Matthias Wunner and Johannes Lindmeyer face Javi Martinez and Luis Hernandez.
