Mediolanum Padel Cup, A surprise win in Como for Diego Dorta

A surprise victory for Diego Dorta at the FIP Silver Mediolanum Padel Cup in Como. The 21-year-old from Tenerife, together with Boris Castro, defeated Alberto Garcia and Victor Tur in the final (6-4 6-4), winning his second title of the year on the CUPRA FIP Tour. After the beautiful semifinal won against the number 1 seeds – Andres Fernandez Lancha and Mario Ortega – Dorta also received a special visit and good-luck message from his friend Nico Paz, a Como football talent and one of the brightest young players in Serie A and European football, who, like him, is from Tenerife.

In the women’s draw, the victory went to 18-year-old Claudia Escacena, already a junior world champion, and Monica Gomez, playing their third tournament together and winning their first title as a pair. The Spanish duo won 6-3 6-3 in the final against Italians Giulia Sussarello and Martina Parmigiani. “It’s fantastic to finish the season like this,” said Claudia Escacena after the trophy ceremony. Sussarello, born and raised in Como, smiled as well: “It’s always fantastic to play at home in front of my friends and family. There’s a bit of disappointment, but that’s padel, and it’s a fair result.”
