Brazil, Joinville title chase: Rubio–Torre vs Jiménez–Sanchez Blasco

Gonzalo Rubio–Agustín ‘el Loco’ Torre will face Jose Jiménez–Maxi Sanchez Blasco for the title at the FIP Silver in Joinville, in southern Brazil. Rubio, number 43 in the FIP Ranking, won two FIP Silver titles last September: one in Oeiras, Portugal, and the other in Kazakhstan. His partner this season claimed the FIP Bronze in Bahrain alongside ‘the Azzurro’ Aris Patiniotis, while in August 2025 he triumphed at the FIP Gold Potosi in Mexico together with Alex Ruiz. The two now lead the field in the Brazilian tournament, as do Jiménez and Sanchez Blasco: after winning the CUPRA Finals in Shanghai last December, the world number 36 and number 41 aim to improve on last week’s result – the semi-finals at the FIP Gold in Ponta Delgada – and lift their first title of the year.

Other notable pairs in the upper half of the draw, the same section as Rubio and Torre, are Cristobal Martinez/Manu Gayone (7), Axel Guevara/Pablo Molina Tofanelli (8) and Luciano Puppo/Maximo Maldonado (9). In the bottom half, the potential quarter-final opponents for Jiménez–Sanchez Blasco are Facundo Lopez and Mariano Gonzalez (5). Lopez has already won a CUPRA FIP Tour event in Brazil: the FIP Silver in Rio Grande, played alongside Santiago Rolla. Also in the bottom half is another competitive pair: Chile’s Javier Valdés and Argentina’s Renzo Nuñez (4), who reached the final of the FIP Bronze in San Antonio, Chile, in February. The FIP Silver in Joinville is being held at Levell Padel, where the FIP Bronze women’s tournament and a stage of the FIP Promises Tour will also take place over the weekend.
