Brea, Triay, Coello, Tapia: world number 1 pairs dominate in Mexico

A title to confirm their position at the top of world padel. For the first time in 2026, the number 1 pairs lift the trophy in the same event: Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay had already done so in Gijon, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia in Riyadh. This time they celebrate together after winning the Cancún P2.

WOMEN Delfi and Brea closed the women’s final in two sets: a very balanced first set versus Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez, decided 7-6 (with a 7-4 tie-break), followed by a dominant second set (61), which secured the number 1 pair their 11th title together, confirming the one won in Cancún last year. “It was a pleasure to play here – said Gemma. – Thanks to our team, with whom we are doing excellent work. We had a very positive week: we arrived with good feelings, but we adapted very well to conditions different from Gijon. The first set was very tough, while in the second we managed to express our best level”. Delfi was also supported by her mother: “And for that reason I want to dedicate this victory to her. We played against very strong pairs; the key was to stay united in the difficult moments”.

MEN While the women’s final was decided in two sets, the men’s final went to three, as had already happened in the Riyadh semi-final, when Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger had pushed Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia. Coello, in Mexico, continues his winning record: in Cancún he prevailed 6-7 6-3 7-5, coming back after losing the first set in a tie-break in a final lasting one hour and 59 minutes, in which Lebron and Augsburger came close to winning their first title together. “I always come to Mexico highly motivated, I enjoy playing here, and the people treat me very well – explained Coello –. I am very pleased with the work we have done this week: congratulations to Agus, and also to Juan and Leo for their performance. The details made the difference”. “An outstanding tournament – added Tapia. – We have played Juan and Leo twice this year and both matches were extremely demanding: thanks to Arturo for the effort, without this attitude we would not be number 1”.

There is no time to pause after the Cancún P2, as the players move on to Florida. From today, the first main draw matches of the Miami P1 begin.
